“The JVP came to power because of its collective vision” – Tilvin Silva

The General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, stated that the party was able to come to power because it consistently carried forward the collective vision of its past heroes.

He made these remarks yesterday (05) in Vavuniya while addressing the 55th April Heroes’ Commemoration.

Tilvin Silva noted that despite numerous obstacles created by opponents, the party has continued its difficult journey forward. He emphasized that those who oppose the people’s government must be defeated as the movement advances toward victory.

This year, the JVP organized three April Heroes’ commemorations—in Vavuniya, Badulla, and Matara. In each location, floral tributes were paid at monuments erected in memory of the April heroes.

Addressing the Vavuniya event, Tilvin Silva further stated:

“This is the first time we are holding a major April Heroes’ commemoration in the Northern Province. It is especially significant that Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim communities have come together in Vavuniya for this event.

We have gathered here to commemorate a people’s uprising that took place 55 years ago.

Why was the 1971 struggle created? What was the purpose for which those comrades sacrificed their lives? The founding generation of the JVP gave their lives for a collective cause. They fought to achieve liberation for all of us.”
