President attends three-month almsgiving ceremony for Nelummala residents who died due to “Ditwa”

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended the three-month almsgiving ceremony held to transfer merit to all those affected, including the 31 people who tragically lost their lives in the village of Nelummala due to the recent “Ditwa” disaster. The ceremony was held today (27) at Pamunupura Batamulla Junior College.

In the Nelummala village, which belongs to the Minipe Divisional Secretariat Division in Kandy, more than five kilometers of land were affected by a landslide, resulting in the deaths of members from 13 families. In remembrance of the victims, this almsgiving merit ceremony was conducted for 70 members of the Maha Sangha.

The event was attended by the Deputy Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Maha Nikaya, the Most Venerable Narampanawa Ananda Anunayake Thero, along with members of the Maha Sangha representing the three Nikayas. In parallel with this event, a Bodhi Pooja and a Pirith chanting ceremony were also organized yesterday (26) evening.

The Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, the Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatta, along with other government officials, public representatives, and a large number of local residents, participated in these religious observances.
