“The Man Who Tampered With a Plate of Rice Has Been Caught Out”
Two days ago, a man claimed that there was a baby snake in the food served at the Pilawoos Hotel and made threats against the management.
Not only did he confront the hotel staff, but he also recorded a video of the incident and uploaded it to his Facebook account.
That video, which appealed to unthinking and sensationalist audiences, went viral across social media platforms.
However, after reviewing the hotel’s CCTV footage, it was proven that this individual, named Oshen Amidu, had deliberately fabricated the incident.
Following this, the hotel management filed a formal complaint with the Bambalapitiya Police.
As a result, Oshen Amidu is now on the verge of being arrested under cybercrime laws.
He has since deleted the video he uploaded.
This act was not carried out by him alone. There appears to be a powerful hand backing him.
This case does not end here. Stay tuned.
A viral video circulated on social media after a man claimed he found a dead baby snake in a rice and curry plate served at a well-known hotel in Bambalapitiya on 12 February 2026. Many people shared the video without carefully examining his behavior.
After closely observing the video, Colombowire concluded that the YouTuber’s attempt backfired and ended up damaging himself.
Colombowire local reporter personally visited the police station and spoke with both the police and the hotel owner. The incident occurred in the morning, yet the YouTuber did not report it to a Public Health Inspector or the police, even though the Bambalapitiya Police Station is directly opposite the hotel.
Instead, the hotel owner filed a complaint around 6 p.m. that day.
Police tried to contact the man, but he did not respond. They managed to reach his father, who said his son was vomiting and had admitted himself to hospital.
The following day, the YouTuber came to the police station. Before his arrival, several people—including an Officer-in-Charge from another police station—had called the Bambalapitiya OIC in support of him. This raised questions, as he was the complainant, yet he had encouraged others to intervene on his behalf.
At the police station, his father requested an amicable settlement. The hotel owner agreed on the condition that the YouTuber should publish a corrective video at the same location, admitting his mistake.
The YouTuber proposed instead to make a promotional video using the phrase “Nai Miris Rice” (playing on the word “Nai,” meaning snake), turning the incident into a marketing gimmick. The hotel owner rejected this and insisted on a factual correction.
He agreed to do so the next day but later stopped answering calls.
I advised the hotel management to release CCTV footage and a video statement to inform the public of what really happened, including events at the police station.
The police stated that they are preparing an official observation report, which the complainant may use if they decide to pursue a civil defamation case.
