“Implement Education Reforms Without Delay!” – Grade 6 Students and Parents Protest Outside the Ministry of Education

Parents of Grade 6 students, under the banner “Parents’ Collective of 2026 Grade 6 Students,” staged a protest this morning (16) in front of the Ministry of Education at Isurupaya, Battaramulla, demanding the immediate implementation of the proposed new education reforms applicable to Grade 6.

A notable feature of the protest was the participation not only of parents but also of a group of young schoolchildren dressed in their school uniforms.

The protesting parents stressed that, until the controversy surrounding the “English Module” is resolved, the authorities should take immediate steps to teach children the reformed modules relating to the other subjects without delay.

They pointed out that implementing the new education system, which is centred on reforms, is an urgent and timely necessity. Suspending the entire reform process due to issues in the English module, they argued, amounts to an injustice to children’s education and unfairly disrupts their learning process.
