Fruitful Meeting Between Chinese Foreign Minister and Sri Lankan Foreign Minister
A special bilateral meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath, was held this morning (12) during the Chinese Foreign Minister’s official visit to the island.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Sri Lanka in the early hours of today while transiting back to China after concluding an official visit to South Africa. He was accompanied by a high-level Chinese diplomatic delegation comprising 17 members, who also participated in the discussions.
The talks focused extensively on Sri Lanka’s post-disaster recovery efforts following the recent impact of Cyclone Ditwah. During the meeting, Foreign Minister Wang Yi formally conveyed the Chinese government’s commitment to providing assistance and cooperation to support Sri Lanka’s reconstruction and reform initiatives.
The discussions were described as constructive and fruitful, reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship and longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and China.
Concluding the brief visit, the Chinese Foreign Minister and his delegation departed for China at around 10.30 a.m. today.
